Upon Completing Book One

Well, I officially finished reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on Tuesday night (technically early Wednesday morning), so I'm back to blog about the experience.

Mostly, I just have to say that I was right on most accounts in my previous post. Yes, Harry had an abusive family, received letters, and all that jazz.
What I did not know was (including but not limited to the following):

  • what the Sorcerer's Stone even was (it's a special thing that means you can make a potion to live forever, or something like that)
  • that there is a character named Neville and I like him lots
  • that Harry even played Quidditch
  • how to play Quidditch
  • that there was a whole ordeal involving a dragon
  • that Ginny is Ron's little sister, and that we are actually introduced to her (a little) in the first book

Those are probably the big things. So here's what I got out of it. I liked it. I like the nice and easy writing style and some of the language is very cute.
I can also understand why people are depressed about not getting their letters to Hogwarts (because it must have gotten lost in the mail...) because not gonna lie, pretty cool place. I wouldn't mind going there instead of having to be at college and dread the real world. It would be so much easier to just know that I have magical powers and I can go learn how to use them at this awesome school. Even all the studying they do seems more interesting than even the smallest bit of studying I have to do now. Sigh.
But I also decided that if I were to be a character in this series and actually attend Hogwarts, J.K. Rowling would not write about me. Firstly, I would be in Hufflepuff, and nothing exciting happens there. And second, I would follow all the rules and not be a stand out at all. The only people who get written about break the rules and go after what they know to be right. Hence, Harry, Ron, and Hermione being the main characters. That is why I like Neville. He's the closest character to who I would be.

So yeah. I think that's all I have to say on that subject: that I did not hate the book and I actually got past the first chapter without a hitch this time. Also, that I plan on reading the second book before the movie comes out. I've been told this will help me better understand but not give away too much so all the rest of the books will be spoiled since I will essentially be seeing what happens at the end.
And yes, I drew that picture on Microsoft Paint. Pure talent, right there. :)

  1. Okay, first of all, Hermione wears a tie too :)
Also, the sorcerer's stone is like a legit thing. Its legend exists elsewhere too. Just so you know.

I totally had an actual conversation at lunch today about which houses we'd be in. I think I'd actually be in Ravenclaw, because I'm smart but otherwise unimpressive. I'd like to be Gryffindor though, because they're lions.

Lastly, I still think you have way too much free time. Perhaps you should spend some of it coming to see me :))) You can even read on the plane!!

  2. I gave Hermione a tie, happy?
And I did not know that. Obviously, I need to catch up on my lore.

You would probably be in Ravenclaw. I guess I could be in Ravenclaw too, but I don't even think my "smartness" is that impressive. So Hufflepuff is my first guess.

And I know this. My semester has been surprisingly easy, especially in comparison to yours. I will be spending some of it going to see you, and I will read on the plane! Yay!

  3. Yes! Yes I am.
Yes, clearly you do. You're so lucky that you have a friend who spends all of her time studying at Barnes and Noble and knows random information like that!

Thank you...? Is it bad that I kind of think you would be in Hufflepuff? Maybe I would be too. I feel like Hufflepuff is the more, um, eclectic type people. I guess I just feel like you'd be happier there. But I think your smartness is, in fact, quite impressive, so if you wanted to be in Ravenclaw, I think that could happen too. But did you know that Cedric Diggory is a Hufflepuff? You and Rob are just destined to be together I guess haha.

Yeah, no fair. I guess that's what I get for being a Ravenclaw...haha. Yay!! And you know what I was thinking, you can also read on Monday morning when I'm in class. Because you'll need something to do. Or you can just sleep though.

P.S. I'm totally watching Goblet of Fire right now :) Yay Harry Potter!

  4. Hannah,
I think, if we ever meet with Travytrav again, I'm totally telling him about this blog. I'm pretty sure it would entertain him lots, like it just entertained me.
    Haha
P.S. Sorry for my old screenname. It's the only thing I had under the options.

  5. Well, you don't look too obsessed yet. Good luck getting past number 3 or 4 without becoming one of those people who carries a wand around to classes. I know I do. And a pointy hat and glasses, with long black robes. Can't forget the tie, or the plush dragon and snowy owl.

So, what do you think?
